Blogging

Blogging is a term used for an online collection of conversations.  Educause (2005) calls it a "web log".  It is similar to a diary that post the most recent entry at the beginning of the blog.  There are so many blogs on the internet today.  Many people use blogs for many different purposes.  When you search for information, often times a question can be answered by reading another person's blog on that topic. This happens to me quite often when I am looking for an answer to any question for school or even medical questions.   Blogs can range from "entertainment and commerce to news and politics". (Educause, 2005)

I think a blog can be useful in many ways in education.  Students as early as elementary school can use blogs.  I believe that if a teacher posted a question on a blog students would be engaged in an online discussion.  Students can share many ideas with peers and get several ideas from their peers.  Technology is a great tool to get students engaged in the curriculum.  If students are taught how to use a blog I believe it would be an asset to the classroom.

Another idea for blogging is videoblogging.  Videoblogging "uses video rather than text or audio as it's primary media source." (Educause, 2005)  Videoblogging is engaging for all users.  The users are able to see movies and emotions within the blog that a regular text blog does not have.  I can imagine a class communicating by videoblog.  Students are able to communicate through movies that they have created along with the text.  Older students have smart phones or Ipads that would make videoblogging an easy task for them to complete.  I believe this would be a rich learning experience for all students.
